How to Steal Pets

Stealing is the accelerator of Hide ur Base and Steal. Shopping during server luck spikes builds a foundation; raiding player and NPC hidden bases jumps you ranks when rolls refuse to cooperate. This guide covers scouting, entry, target priority, escape, gear for chases, and the moment an owner hits you mid-carry and ruins the run.

New players should already have one secured pet and a decent door from Getting Started and hiding spots. Warm up on NPC bases before contested human dens. Raiding with nowhere to return is how you donate legendaries to third parties.

What “steal” means here

You find a secret spot — player-owned or NPC — enter the base, interact with a pet, and carry it out toward safety — typically finishing with TP-back to your own den. If a player owner (or anyone) hits you during the carry, the steal can drop or cancel. NPC dens skip owner interrupts but still sit inside a six-person server where humans can third-party you.

This is not the block-breaking raid fantasy from Build a Base and Steal. If a guide tells you to roll defense blocks, you are reading the wrong game.

Rule of thumb: NPC until your TP-back is clean; player dens when you need scarcity or rebirth birds and big cats.

Phase 1 — Scout without announcing yourself

Visual tells

  • Players vanishing into benches, rocks, church flanks, playground undersides, school props, or fixture dens (lamp, fridge, rug) — see map locations
  • Sudden TP arrivals followed by a sprint to a mesh
  • Combat sounds near “empty” props
  • Someone leaving a prop with a pet that did not exist in their hands before

Social tells

  • Chat bragging about dens (free intel)
  • Duo callouts (“he’s under the rock”) — rotate pressure onto the speaker’s door afterward
  • Live stream overlays in the same server (rare but lethal)

Walk wide arcs. Standing five studs from a suspicious bench while spinning your camera is itself a tell.

Phase 2 — Timing the entry

Ideal windows:

  1. Owner is across the map shopping during a luck double.
  2. Owner is busy interrupting someone else.
  3. Owner just secured a pet and is locked in the ~20s post-secure wait — they are distracted.
  4. Lobby chaos after a multi-raid; cameras point elsewhere.
  5. You are hitting an NPC door while humans fight elsewhere.

Bad windows:

  • Owner camping the mouth of the prop
  • Two friends bodyguarding
  • You are already famous for raiding them this session

If the door is camped, leave. Heat transfers to your own hiding spot the moment you fail loudly.

Phase 3 — Target priority inside the base

Use community grades from the pets tier list:

PriorityWhen to take it
S / A income pets, goldensPrimary goal if the exit path is clear
Rebirth gates (Goat, Frog, Owl, Parrot, Elephant, Lion)When you are actively unlocking rebirth
Mid pets (llama, zebra, etc.)First-learn raids; lower revenge energy
Bait commons near the doorOnly if you need a quick teach moment or distraction

Grab one pet you can finish. Greed chains (third pet while the owner is already swinging) create highlight deaths.

Remember layout psychology: smart defenders put junk near the entrance and gods in the back. Walking straight to the back is correct for value and dangerous for time — decide before you click in.

Phase 4 — Carry, gear, hit risk, and TP-back

Gear that improves contested carries (gear shop):

  • Speed Coil — shorter exposed pathing
  • Steel Bat — you will need it when you are defending later; opponents use bats too
  • Flashbang / shrink / body-swap / cloak — higher-rebirth tools for sweaty exits

Carry steps:

  1. Start the steal interact cleanly.
  2. Path toward exit with camera free enough to see pursuers.
  3. Expect the owner to try a hit interrupt — strafing and props help, but do not assume i-frames.
  4. Once outside with control, TP back to your base immediately.
  5. Secure the pet, respect the short move-lock (~20s), and close camera attention on your own door.

If you get hit and drop, disengage. Instant re-entry into a now-alert base is how double losses happen.

Practice the input side on controls so TP and melee are not fat-fingered.

Phase 5 — Post-steal heat management

You just became interesting.

  • Do not emote at your door.
  • Consider relocating if the victim saw your exit vector.
  • Spend the new cash on slot fills, rebirth cushions, or luck-timed buys — not revenge tours.
  • Watch for the victim’s friend swapping onto your prop.

Defense after you get rich is protect your base. Stealing without defense skill is leasing pets from the lobby.

Advanced patterns

Bait-and-switch

Leave a mid pet poorly guarded on purpose while you watch from a flank. When a tourist commits, hit them, reclaim, then counter-raid while they respawn mentally.

Luck desync

During server luck spikes, many players tunnel on shop UI. That is prime raid time — their camera is in a menu, not on their rock.

Duo roles

One watches the approach; one carries. Legal teamwork. Still counts as pressure that may make solo players hop servers — fair game.

Information laundering

If you discover a den but cannot crack it, do not announce the prop in chat. Either hold the intel for a better window or sell the opportunity with your feet, not your keyboard.

Ethics and reportables

Stealing is the designed PvP loop. What is not designed:

  • Injected ESP showing every secret spot and NPC door (Scripts Hub)
  • Real-world harassment to force trades
  • Exploits that clip through unclickable geometry

Report client-breaking bugs through Roblox; do not advertise them here.

Training plan

  1. Complete five clean NPC carries.
  2. Scout three player dens without entering.
  3. Enter one empty-looking player den; take a mid pet only.
  4. Escape with TP-back; secure; relocate if needed.
  5. Repeat until you survive an owner interrupt attempt.
  6. Only then contest S-tier, golden, or Lion-tier targets.

Sibling guides

Steal calm. Steal once. Secure fast. The players who empty lobbies are not the greediest — they are the cleanest on TP-back timing.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

How do I steal pets in Hide ur Base and Steal?

Find a player or NPC secret spot, enter the base, take a pet, leave, and TP back to secure it at home. Expect player owners to hit you mid-carry to cancel the steal.

Should I raid NPC or player bases first?

NPC bases first for practice and rebirth fodder. Switch to player dens when you need scarce pets or your TP-back timing is already clean.

What happens if I get hit while stealing?

Hits can interrupt the carry and make you drop or fail the steal. Disengage, reset, and try a different timing instead of force-reentering immediately.

Which pet should I take first?

On learning runs, mid-tier pets. When confident and the path is clear, prioritize high-income, golden, or rebirth-gate targets from the community pets tier list.

What gear helps during chases?

Speed Coil early; Steel Bat for the defense side of the loop; higher-rebirth flashbang, shrink, body-swap, and cloak for contested exits. See the Gear Shop guide.

Is stealing bannable?

No — stealing is a core designed mechanic. Using injected ESP or exploits to find every door is what risks moderation.

Should I steal during server luck spikes?

Often yes. Many owners stare at shop UIs during doubles, which opens dens. Just be ready for contested exits when they finish buying.

Can I steal from multiple bases in one life?

Possible but risky. Clean single steals compound better than greedy chains that end with you dropping an S-tier in public.
